Batheaston Youth Club

Batheaston Youth Club has been running for 50 years, it started off being run by the local council and staff were employed by them to carry out various workshops and activities.

Due to cut backs the club is now run by Batheaston Management Committee with Pam Burcombe as chairman, still keeping an active role in the club after running the club for 28 years. Following her retirement Pam’s daughter Julie Russell took over the position. Funding is now obtained from Batheaston Parish Council and other outside agencies. However, if any local businesses or individual would like to contribute to the Club any donations would greatly appreciate.

The club opens 2 nights’ a week at present, Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6:30 – 9pm for ages of 11 – 19 year olds. The club is an open access centre where everyone is welcome. Young people can meet their friends in a safe and friendly environment, by just chilling or joining in with activities. Youth workers engaged young people in many different activities and workshops, ranging from sports, cooking, crafts, community safety, drugs and alcohol awareness, sexual health, mosaic workshops, lots of discussion around various issues, internet access for most of their needs and lots more. Young people can gain confidential advice from staff around any issues.

Also the club offers offsite activities these included a recent residential weekend with a wealth of exciting activities with qualified instructors, ice skating, indoor rock climbing and bowling.

Eleven year olds are permitted access to the club in the last half of the school summer term. Thursday nights is the evening for them to attend but in September they may attend both sessions.

If anybody would like to volunteer by sharing their skills with the young people then please do not hesitate to contact Julie Russell on 07905905970.
